Where is the unrelenting, overwhelming effort from six or more House committees on all of the president’s offenses and abuses of power?
Where are the daily public hearings on impeachable offenses by the House Judiciary Committee and other committees?
Where are the prosecutorial-style presentations, including testimony by friendly and cooperative witnesses, to persuade the public of the gravity of this administration’s offenses and of the ever-increasing danger that this administration poses to the country, and to build popular demand for conviction in the Senate and removal?
Where are the impeachment inquiries into Barr, Pompeo, Pence, Chao, Mnuchin, DeVos, Perry, Mulvaney, Carson, Bernhardt, Ross, McAleenan, Kavanaugh, and the rest for their corruption and for their craven transgressions in service of fascism, racism, misogyny, homophobia, religious bigotry, and plutocracy?
Where are the Democratic politicians and presidential candidates barnstorming the states of Republican senators to call them out for enabling and empowering fascists?
We could be so much further along. So much closer to saving the country already.
This is wholly unacceptable:
some lawmakers fearing that the American public would confuse a vote authorizing an impeachment inquiry as actually impeaching Trump.
Yeah, I’m sure.
The idea has met with anxiety among some of the battleground Democrats, who fear it could distract from the rest of their agenda, according to multiple aides.
[...] while Spanberger urged members to talk about anything other than impeachment while they're on TV.
Can’t be distracted with saving the country, see.
Houlahan asked if Democrats “were being fair” to Republicans.
Seriously. Seriously.
There’s more:
The bigger mystery is why so many Democrats are reluctant to seize the moment. Democratic leaders have advised their members to downplay the impeachment inquiry to their constituents and limit their discussion of it Ukraine.
[...] As the world ponders what could have driven Trump to betray the Kurds, the same Democrats who wanted to avoid an impeachment inquiry at all costs have decided it’s critically important to end this one as quickly as possible. And for some reason, the fact that Republicans also want the impeachment inquiry to end as quickly as possible hasn’t caused those Democrats to reconsider.
No, there’s no time to waste. Public impeachment hearings are Congress’s superpower. Let’s demand that they use it.
Call your congressperson. Please ask him or her to demand these priorities for the impeachment inquiry:
Hold public hearings every day. Make the case in an organized, prosecutorial presentation, including with cooperative and allied witnesses. Cover all of the crimes of office, not just Ukraine, for real accountability, to leave no affected group behind, and to maximize public impact. Take conviction in the Senate seriously, and make it happen. Impeach Barr, Pence, Pompeo, Kavanaugh, and others too. Take inherent contempt power seriously, and use it. Take unilateral action, on the House’s own authority, without waiting for the courts or for the administration to respond. We know plenty already.Bring up impeachment with your family and friends.
